The Town of Lewiston is located in the Westernmost portion of Niagara County. The town is bounded by the Lower Niagara River to the west, the City of Niagara Falls, Town of Niagara and Town of Wheatfield to the south, the Town of Cambria to the east, theTown of Wilson to the northeast and the Town of Porter to the north. Buffalo is a 30-minute drive to the south. The Town of Lewiston was organized on February 27, 1818. The area was originally controlled by the French, later the British and ultimately became part of the United States. Due to its position as the gateway to westward expansion, Lewiston figured prominently in the early development of the United States. The upper part of the escarpment is the permanent home of the Tuscarora Indian Nation, who arrived in the area in 1713 from North Carolina.
